Mount Khumbila, or Khumbi Yul Lha, near the village of Khumjung, Nepal, is regarded as sacred by the local Sherpas.

Khumbi Yul Lha is a mountain in the Khumbu region of Nepal overlooking the Sherpa village of Khumjung. The local people regard the mountain as sacred and discourage mountaineers from climbing it. Thus far their wishes have largely been respected and the peak remains unclimbed, though an attempt was made by Sir Edmund Hillary who failed to reach the summit after breaking his arm. The mountain is pictured with a Tibetan Chorten, a local variation of the Buddhist Stupa, in the foreground. Chortens often house sacred relics, such as the ashes of a holy man, and are places of meditation.
