He and Mort Hogan, the foreman of the Elm Grove Farm, have been buying and trading horses so much lately that we need not be surprised if we should see them driving a team of zebras through town. He is going to have all the nine teams branded with the firm trade mark. Philip Gross is working for Wm. Gal- lintine this winter. Next summer he and his brother, Otto, will go quite ex- tensively into the raising of asters for cut flowers. They figure that it is more profitable to grow those that produce but three or four first-class flowers and no lateral blooms. This necessitates buying a careful selection of seed and paying a high price, because such plants are poor seeders. At the New York State Fair last Sep- tember, George Arnold put a little for- malin in the water used for holding the cut flowers. This he found
