More recently, a 51-step reactionset (T-l) proposed by an NAS-NAEstudy group included the chlorinecatalytic cycle and Freon 12 (CF2CI2)photodissociation and reactions withO(D). But there is no guarantee thatthe NAS-NAE reaction set will remaindefinitive for calculations of strato-spheric ozone. The importance of vertical transportbelow certain altitudes can be inferredfrom the O3 density profiles in F-2 andF-3. Ozone is photochemically formedprimarily in the O3 forms in the tropospherebecause the stratosphere absorbs mostof the UV. But observations showtropospheric ozone number densities ofthe same order of magnitude as those atan altitude of. say. 35 km. a level ofintense photochemical , this is the result of ozonediffusing down to the surface, wherereactions at the gro
