More recently, a 51-step reactionset (T-l) proposed by an NAS-NAEstudy group included the chlorinecatalytic cycle and Freon 12 (CF2CI2)photodissociation and reactions withO(D). But there is no guarantee thatthe NAS-NAE reaction set will remaindefinitive for calculations of strato-spheric ozone. The importance of vertical transportbelow certain altitudes can be inferredfrom the O3 density profiles in F-2 andF-3. Ozone is photochemically formedprimarily in the O3 forms in the tropospherebecause the stratosphere absorbs mostof the UV.
