Cattle beside damaged stream bank

Unmanaged cattle (Bos taurus) access to this stream bank has caused damage and compaction to the soil (poaching). This can lead to the death of vegetation, reduced activity of aerobic soil microorganisms and soil liquefaction, which can in turn lead to sediment running into waterways such as the stream course pictured. Photographed in Carmarthenshire, Wales, UK.
