On the afternoon of 2 May 1808, the mayors of Móstoles, Andrés de Torrejón (1736-1812) and Simón Hernández (1743-1818), signed a declaration promoting the uprising against the French. "Edict of the Mayors of Móstoles". Proclamation against the Napoleonic invasion of the Iberian Peninsula, which was followed by an insurrection, thus beginning the Spanish War of Independence.
