Large old bombs mark the entrance of Craters restaurant in Xiang Khoang, (Xieng Khouang, Phonsavan) Laos. The United States reportedly dropped some 90 million cluster bombs on Laos during Second Indochina War. These bombs had a reported 10 to 30 percent failure rate, which meant that millions of them as well as many larger bombs hit the ground and remain unexploded. More than 12,000 Lao, usually farmers and children, have been killed or maimed by UXO since the air war ended.
