The following is the report: Report on a visit to the Northwest by Rev. G. , with the view of organizing an English Missionin Minneapolis, Minn. I left Lebanon, Pa., Tuesday, April 25, 1882, and arrivedat Pittsburgh the same day, where I met Dr. Passavantand Rev. E. Belfour with whom the work of organizingan English mission at Minneapolis was discussed. LeftPittsburgh on Wednesday, April 27th, at 2 p. m., andarrived at Minneapolis on Friday morning, April 28th, at7 oclock. After breakfast I at once set out on my mission. The First Missionary—Rev. G. H. Trabert, INCEPTION OF THE WORK 33 and found Rev. J. Ternstedt, pastor of the SwedishAugustana Church, to whom I had been recommended,in his study, who received me kindly. Upon telling himmy mission he expressed surprise that the General Coun-cils Committee should send a man up there without them,who are a part of the General Council, being informedabout it, and in spite of the protest of the MinnesotaConference of the Swedish Augustana Synod, reiteratedat its last meeting and more strongly asserted than at theprevious one and which was sustained by the Synod andpresented to the General Council during its meeting inRochester, N. Y., in 1881. Rev. Ternstedt cordially welcomed me and at onceconsented that I should preach on Sunday evening, butat the same time frankly stated that under no circum-stances could they recede from their position, viz.: thatEnglish congregations established by
