A shortage of stock was keenly felt in the Louisville market last week. For the first time in months the retailers were worried and the wholesalers cleaned up their places every night. Most retailers were receiving shipments of mums from California, but none has proved profitable. Mums in this section are unusually late and only a few were seen on the market. These, however, were good and found ready sale, but there were not nearly enough to go around. The same can be said of car- nations. Although the crop is promis- ing, the supply is pitiful. With outdoor flowers gone, most of the stock seen in the stores wag shipped in. Roses, al- though coming in steadily, are cleaned up early each morning and sometimes they arc cut so tightly that they make poor stock when open. Columbia,
