Salivary gland. Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a freeze fractured, salivary gland. The salivary gland cell, shows numerous serous secretory granules (small, spherical), within the serous cells (acini). A Golgi body (orange) and endoplasmic reticulum as well as a nucleus are visible. Serous glands contain serous acini, a grouping of serous cells that secrete a fluid (saliva) containing enzymes such as alpha amylase. Magnification: x2500 when printed at 10c
