Shell perforate, turbinately depressed, sublenticular, thin, horny,fulvous, ornamented above with fine, oblique, costulate striation,bearing elongate granules arranged in close spiral lines, smootherand more polished, but still decussately striated, below, the spiralimpressed lines disappearing near the umbilicus : spire low conoid,sometimes with concave sides, apex acute, sometimes prominently. The measurements are from an adult shell in Ool. BeddomesCollection. Bensons original type measured 29 mm. in majordiameter, but was not adult. This shell, now in the CambridgeMuseum, had the keel white with the colour deeper on each side,a coloration found in a few specimens only. E. prceeminens from Ceylon is a well-marked form withthe apex prominent and papillar, and the sides of the spire con-sequently concave.
