Father Magnien exercisedthe widest influence on the formation of the Americanclergy. He was richly endowed for his predestinedwork. He was a naturally upright, frank, manlycharacter; and above all he was a true priest, de-voted to the Church and supremely interested in thespread of religion. He spoke to the seminarians outof the abundance of a priestly heart and from a fullknowledge of priestly life. Nowhere was he so muchat home as on the rostrum.
