Japan: 'Blossom Time in Tokyo". Woodblock print by Helen Hyde (6 April 1868 - 13 May 1919), 1914. Helen Hyde was an American etcher and engraver. She is best known for her colour etching process and woodblock prints reflecting Japanese women and children characterisations. Born in Lima, New York, she began studying art at a young age, and developed her skills with other artists in Berlin and Paris, where she was introduced to the Japonism movement. Japanese attributes would become very influential in her work, and Hyde moved briefly to Japan in 1899. She eventually returned to the US in 1914.
