Victoria Eddy – both students at the hospital’s Perioperative Nurse Training Program – the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal for their life-saving efforts on Nov. 17 at the gym aboard Naval Air Station Jacksonville. After noticing a gym patron unconscious on the floor of the exercise room, the two Navy Medicine professionals quickly assessed the patient. Eddy immediately directed a gym attendee to call 911, and another to grab the automated external defibrillation (AED) located at the gym. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was initiated by Bullington and the AED was activated. Emergency personnel soon arrived to take over care and transport the patient to the emergency room. It was later determined that the quick response by Bullington and Eddy saved the patient’s life. ( Navy photo by Jacob Sippel, Naval Hospital Jacksonville Public Affairs/Released).
