Failure analysis test samples. These samples, known as test coupons, are used in failure testing. Failure testing determines the maximum force that a material can handle before breaking (the breaking point). These samples are also used to determine the tensile modulus (or Young's modulus), which defines a material's stiffness, the ratio of stress to strain and the point at which it becomes deformed.
