Born near Enniskillen, Ireland, on the 18th October,1844, Captain Gamble, late Secretary of the Association ofOntario Land Surveyors, died at Bournemouth, Encjland,where he was visitinc: relatives, on 17th June, 1912. He waseducated at Portora School and entered as a cadet at Wool-wich where he took a his^h stand, and althous;h the professionof civil engineering seemed to be almost hereditary in hisancestry, at least four generations having given eminent rep-resentatives to that callincr, the late Killaly Gamble, selectedmilitary work, and but for a change in the regulations dur-ing his course at Woolwich his lot would have been with theEngineering Branch of the service. After being posted to theRoyal Artillery he served in \-arious parts of the Empire,,and at one time was charged with making a repf)rt upon tiiedefence of the Northern part of Ireland.
