Fisherman detangle fishing nets. West Bengal, India: IMAGES show the beautifully intricate fishing practices in India with methods varying depending on the local geography throughout the country. One image shows men balancing on poles, holding a fishing rod and a lantern, enabling them to fish undisturbed at night, while another shows conventional nets being thrown into the water. These images were captured by photographer Shibasish Saha (29) in Kolkata, West Bengal in India using a D7200 camera and a DJI Mavic 2 Pro drone. ?Most of the images taken by me are captured from a high rising bridge so that the activity of the fishing doesn?t get disturbed,? said Shibasish. ?Sometimes when I was clicking their activities from very near, the fishermen initially didn?t care because they didn?t want to waste time talking with me. ?Some of the fishermen asked why I was taking their photos, some of them even invited me to their respective Net fishing is a traditional form of fishing practised in India. Known also as throw nets, the circular nets have small weights around the edges, trapping the fish under the nets. ?It all started when I visited the Grand Canyon in West Bengal, where I saw a group of fishermen throwing fishnet on the Shilaboti riverbank,? said Shibasish. ?I love the colours of the fishnets along with the river and the working lifestyle of the fishermen attracted me more to capture and document the entire process. ?When I first documented the fishermen from Grand Canyon in West Bengal, the colours of the river along with the fishnet made me very curious about the images and different working processes. ?Most of the people in West Bengal didn?t even know about the people using different fishing processes, they mostly get shocked to see women working side by side with men holding the heavy mediadrumimages/ShibasishSaha.
