Brighton, UK, 24th January, 2013. Parts of the derelict West Pier in Brighton have again collapsed into the sea after the wintry weather took its toll at the weekend. The pier, ravaged by fire in 2003 and battered by storms, was closed to the public in 1975. The West Pier Trust, owners of the structure, said: "Thanks to the advanced Edwardian engineering of the pier, it has withstood decades of storms with minimal damage occurring. However, it is still very sad to witness when parts are lost." The pier was built in 1866 by Eugenius Birch.
