Summer is waning, vaca- tionists are coming home, nights are growing cooler, outdoor flowers are grad- ually passing and we need but a good rain storm or a light frost to cause a decided boom in prices for indoor flow- ers. Already there is a noticeable im- provement in retail trade and sales are fully as good as they were a year ago. Factories are gradually getting back to normal production, money rates are easier and the general outlook for fall trade is encouraging. Dahlias are good and sell in a moderate way. Clematis panicu- lata is offered, but is only good when freshly cut. For wedding decorations it proves popular. Chrysanthemums are mainly yellow. They sell well. Carnations continue short-stemmed and small and buyers are not eager for them. Their time is com- ing soon, however. Roses have stiffened a little, and, thanks to the cooler nights, are of improved quality. Columbia re- mains the leader. There are a few longi- florum lilies, for which $20 to $25 is asked. Buyers are scarce. A few col- ored spcciosums also come in. A few Cattleya labiata
