Tower Bridge. Designed by Horace Jones, the City Architect, in collaboration with John Wolfe Barry. It took 8 years, 5 major contractors and the relentless labour of 432 construction workers to build. Two massive piers sunk into the river bed and more than 11,000 tons of steel for framework for the Towers and Walkways. Framework was clad in Cornish granite and Portland stone protecting the steelwork.
