050518-N-9273C-025 Persian Gulf (May 18, 2005) - Live rounds are fired from the .50-caliber gun mounts by the ship's Self Defense Force aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70). This type of weapons training is conducted on a regular basis to keep qualifications current and to maintain proficiency. The Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group is currently deployed conducting operations in support of multi-national forces in Iraq.
