Twenty Polish prisoners of Buchenwald concentration camp awaiting execution. They were hanged in retaliation for the killing of a German camp guard. Buchenwald and its 139 sub-camps were forced labour camps not death camps and there were no gas chambers there. However poor conditions, abuse and executions led to 56500 deaths there. It was liberated by the US Army on the 11th April 1945.
