Forester sits high on the edge of the forest, Förster hoch sitz
The roots of the forester's profession go far back, to the Middle Ages. The forerunners of the forester were the so-called forest wardens. They had a kind of police function and were supposed to prevent wood theft, for example. Around 250 years ago, forest wardens on the one hand, and hunting staff on the other hand developed into what is known as "timber-oriented hunters" - that was the direct precursor of today's forest engineer as a forester, district forester with their forest administration, and forest offices.
