Hard work was required to make the camp dry the first had to be dug to keep the water out of the camp, andevery shelter had to be repaired and reinforced. Firewood wasgathered in large quantities and placed where it would remainpartially dry. In spite of water and mud, the three days of storm were notwithout fun. Stones from the river were placed around thefire and paths were made in the camp to prevent the place frombecoming a mudhole.
