Night beach view north to Central Pier Big Wheel, red Sky Flyer ride, blue-green Blackpool Tower, Central Sands, Blackpool, 2013

The Central Pier dates to 1864, the year after the more genteel North Pier. In 1990 the pier was strengthened, at a cost of £75,000, to take the weight of the 32m (108ft) tall 'Big Wheel', here illuminated. The Sky Flyer is a recent flying machine ride, where tourists sit in seats which rise and spin, on the promenade near the pier's entrance. Blackpool Tower, opened in 1894, has computer-controlled changing lights, here illuminated blue-green. The tower in 2013, 2014 and 2015 was undergoing repairs. Beach view, with reflections, looking north towards the Tower and Central Pier.
