Suez Canal. The largest hydraulic structure of the 19th century. Built in 1859-1869. Work was done manually. During the construction, about 120 000 people died. Initially, 53% of the company's shares belonged to France, 44% to Egypt, which sold them to England in 1875. In the picture - in the foreground - Suez - a port on the Red Sea, in the depth - access to the Mediterranean Sea.
