Amid security, SMC resumes garbage dumping at Achan.
Amid security the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) on Thursday resumed garbage dumping operations at Achan site here. Police and paramilitary CRPF men were deployed enroute to the dumping site at Achan to facilitate smooth movement of garbage-laden trucks. Pertinently, Achan is the lone dumping place in the summer capital. On an average 400 metric tons of solid garbage is produced per day in Srinagar and subsequently dumped at Achan garbage dump. In past also the Achan residents had started an agitation demanding closure of the garbage dump. This time, the aggrieved residents are resisting SMC’s dumping activity in the area.
