THE experiments I propofe to give an account of inthis paper, were made in confequence of the accidentfrom lightning, which happened to one of the buildingsbelonging to his Majeftys magazine of gun-powder atPurfleet, on the 15th of May laft. Soon after that event, an official and particular ac-count having been fent by the Board of Ordnance to theRoyal Society, a committee of the members was imme-diately appointed, to examine the damage done to thatbuilding, and afterwards to make a report of the fame.
