Robert Conely, left, a data systems analysis with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, stands at attention after receiving his certificate of completion for Corporals Course on the flight deck of the Wasp-class amphibious assault ship USS Kearsarge (LHD-3). Corporals Course is a leadership class designed to teach Marines the fundamentals of being a noncomissioned officer and prepare them to take on more responsibilities within their unit. Marines and Sailors with the 22nd MEU and Kearsarge Amphibious Ready Group are deployed to the 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
