View NE of the engine house, 18m-high stack & winding drum pit of Llanrwst Lead Mine in Gwydir Forest, North Wales, UK. The engine house was built 1876-77 for a 25-inch condensing engine which, with the help of a flywheel, kept the mine free of water by working a series of rods operating an elaborate pumping system in Endean's Shaft. The stone & brick shaft helped to provide a through-draft for a fire in the boiler house. The pit held a winding drum & gearing for working the flat rods which operated the pumps. In the care of the Forestry Commission which is now (since 1 April 2013) part of Natural Resources Wales.
