Michigan Air National Guard Brig. Gen. John D. Slocum joins with French officials to lay a wreath at the memorial to Private 1st Class Charles N. DeGlopper, a Army soldier who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions near Manche, France, on D-Day + 3, June 9, 1944. A member of the 82nd Airborne Division, DeGlopper single-handedly laid down suppressive fire against a numerically superior enemy force, allowing his company to reach safety. DeGlopper was killed in the action.
