Thesetwo stones, known as the Saddle and Pillion Rocks, are on thefarm still owned by Edmond Freemans descendants. After the deathof his wife, Edmond Freeman placed the Pillion over her graveand directed that upon his death the Saddle should be placedover his own grave. The inscription on thetablet on the Pillion Rockreads as follows:— ELIZABETH WIFE OF EDMOND FREEMAN BORN IN ENGLAND 1600 DIED IN 1675-6 During King PhilipsWar, which resulted in thedevastation of so manyfrontier towns. Sandwichand several other CapeCod towns invited thedwellers in the strickensettlements to take refugewith them, for none of theCape tribes joined withPhilip in this uprising,many even serving againsthim.
