Augus-tine, the father of (ieorge, firstmarried Jane Butler, who borehim four children, two of whom,Lawrence and Augustine, reached f maturity. Of six children by hissecond marriage, George was theeldest, the others being Betty,i Samuel, John Augustine, Charles and Washington, the father of George, diedin 1743, leaving a large landed property. To hiseldest son, Lawrence, he bequeathed an estate onthe Patomac, afterwards known as Mount Vernon,and to George he left the parental residence.
