Aung San Suu Kyi (born 19 June 1945) is a Burmese diplomat, politician and author who served as State Counsellor of Myanmar (equivalent position to a prime minister) from 2016 until she was overthrown and imprisoned by the military junta in 2021. She was the youngest daughter of Aung San, Father of the Nation of modern-day Myanmar, and was in charge of the National League for Democracy (NLD) party.
