If we eat meat, or eggs, or fish, we are still dependent on plants, for they nourish the animals we eat. Fuel. We are equally dependent on plants for our fuel, used for warmth, cooking, or lighting. This is still true even if we burn coal, for coal is made of the remains of plants which lived long ago. Clothing. For most of our clothing, also, we are dependent on plants. The most important of the textile materials is cotton; others are hemp, flax, piiia, and abaca.
