21/12/22 T'Owd Man Border Morris dance in the Solstice dawn at the Stardisc, overlooking Wirksworth, in the Derbyshire Peak District. The Wirksworth StarDisc is a granite disc measuring 12m wide, which maps out the northern hemisphere’s night sky. It was constructed in 2011 and is engraved with both constellations and the Milky Way. It is surrounded by 12 seats to mark each month of the year and at night, the seats light up the Stardisc. Their power comes from our closest star, the sun. T'Owd Man is the unofficial mascot of the town of Wirksworth. It's Derbyshire dialect for 'The Old Man' and is named after a carving of a lead miner found in the town’s church. All Rights Reserved: F Stop Press Ltd. +44 (0)7765 242650
