Filtering drinking watersaves many lives, especially from typhoid fever and diar-rhoeal diseases. It saves the lives of many children. In a city 250 persons out ofevery 100,000 inhabitantsmay die of typhoid filtering the water-sup-ply, the deaths from thisdisease may be reduced tofive out of every 100, careful and scientificsupervision of the filters isnecessary for the surestresults. Even with thegreatest care, some diseasegerms may be carriedthrough the filters, and remain in the drinking a further safeguard the source of the water shouldbe protected from all dangerous pollution, even thoughthe water may be filtered. When there is an epidemicof some contagious disease, the water should be boiledbefore drinking it. Boil even the filtered water whenthere is any possibility
