Blue and white brush and ink stand, China, 1522-1566. Ming dynasty stand for brushes and ink of squat cylindrical shape. The top has one rectangular and four circular apertures interspersed with flower sprays. The side has two phoenixes in flight against a ground of formalised lotus head scroll with bands of ruyi heads and slopping petals above and below.
