Blue Lagoon is a famous Icelandic spa fed by mineral rich warm water from the Svartsengi geothermal power plant. The power plant uses a heat exchanger to transfer the energy from the mineral rich geothermal waters. The discarded cooled geothermal water is rich in silica ( the primary cause of the water's milky blue shade ) and sulphur minerals. The minerals form a mud as they precipitate out of the cooling water. Some of this is collected for cosmetics while bathing in the water is therapeutic for some sufferers of skin aliments including psoriasis. Blue Lagoon, Iceland
