Under this tree their king is chofen ;under this tree he holds his firft council, in which he markshis enemies, and the time and manner in which his ownfoldiers are to make their irruption into their fceptre is a bludgeon made of this tree, which, like amace, is carried before him wherever he goes ; it is pro-duced in the general meetings of the nation, and is calledBuco. The wood is clofe and heavy, the bark thick; there isthen a fmall quantity of white wood, the reft is dark brownand reddifh, not unlike the laburnam,and the buco is ftriptto this lafl appearance, and always kept plentifully anoint-ed with butter.
