Thelatter however is a younger Middle Coniacian to Middle Santonian species with distinctlyovoid to pyriform whorl section. Baculites schenki Matsumoto (1959: 113, pi. 32 (figs 1-6), figs 12-25; Matsumoto &Obata, 1963: 38, pi. 12 (figs 1-2), pi. 14 (fig. 1), text-figs 90, 131-33) is allied toB. klingeri sp. nov., but has a more ovate whorl section, as has Baculites boulei Collignon(1931: 35, pi. 5 (fig. 2), pi. 9 (fig. 14); Matsumoto & Obata, 1963: 43, pi. 13 (figs 3, 5),pi. 15 (fig. 6), figs 93, 152-55); the latter species also has stronger more distant tuberculesand is regarded a synonym of B. capensis Woods (Klinger & Kennedy 1996).
