Ganganir Danga or Gangani ravines is popularly known as 'Grand Canyon' of Bengal. It is one of the uplands of Pleistocene era (2 million to 10,000 years before present) distributed in the western parts of West Bengal along the margin of Chota Nagpur plateau. Alternate wetting and drying and associated movement of subsurface water over a long period results laterite. The steep cliff along the right bank of the river Shilabati or Silai is intensively eroded by headward growth of both small channels (rills) and larger channels (gullies) to develop this one square kilometer ravine land with annual average railfall is 156 cm.
