Public demonstration against the planned Lewisham Gateway development in Loampit Vale Central Lewisham Action Group

A public demonstration against the planned Lewisham Gateway development in Loampit Vale Central Lewisham Action Group Residence are demanding a public inquiry into development plans for the heart of their borough. Lewisham council have passed the plans to build eight buildings from five to 24 storeys, including a leisure centre shops and 788 flats. CLAG do not oppose the development, they oppose details of the development including the use of high-rise towers upto 24 stories, its high-density and its lack of adequate transport provision and level of affordable housing in the scheme. CLAG argue that the increase in housing will put too much strain on the land, transport services and health and leisure services. They also are concerned about its density and its impact this will have on the green spaces of Lewisham, particularly the award-winning Cornmill Gardens. .
