Usually in previous years the advance prices have been high and the market has broken the day before Christmas, vv^hen the big supply came in at the last moment from growlers who held back, but this would not happen this year, the leading growers asserted; they said stock would be scarce, even with plenty of clear weather. Roses last week were of the best qual- ity, especially in Premier and Ophelia. Russell and Columbia sold well. Prices on the choice stock advanced greatly, especially on Premier and Russell, which are up to $75 per hundred. There was a big call for White Killarney. Red roses were scarce and the price on Mi- lady was high and the demand large. Carnations had the biggest demand in years, especially from outside, show- ing plainly that carnations are scarce all over the countrvi Advance orders at all the wholesale markets were more than the supply would be.
