Cappadocian-Greek from Nea ("New") Karvali, dancing the "Konyali" ("from Konya") dance. Kavala, Macedonia, Greece
Cappadocian-Greek from Nea ("New") Karvali, wearing traditional costume. Her ancestors came to Greece after the exchange of populations between Greece and Turkey (1922-1924), as a result of the Laussane Treaty. They were living for centuries in Karvali (old Turkish name "Gelveri", new Turkish name "Guzelyurt"), Aksaray province, Cappadocia, Anatolia, very close to famous Ihlara valley. Today in Guzelyurt and around you can still find many Greek "signs", including dozens of rock-cut Greek-Orthodox churches and monasteries. Photo taken at "Akontisma", Nea Karvali, Macedonia, Greece.
