Illustration of Magdalenian hunters attacking a herd of bison. Magdalenian refers to the period between 17,000 and 12,000 years ago (Upper Palaeolithic) in Western Europe. Magdalenians hunted mammals with spears and also set traps and snares. They are particularly known for their decorative carving of bone, antler and ivory.
