The Basilica of Our Lady of Peace of Yamoussoukro (Basilique Notre-Dame de la Paix de Yamoussoukro) is a Roman Catholic basilica (construction: 1985 - 1989; consecrated in 1990 by Pope John Paul II) in Yamoussoukro, Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), often described as a "white elephant" for its huge costs (US$300 million) and lack of traceability in the funds used. The design is clearly inspired by the Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican City. Guinness World Records lists it as the largest church in the world, larger than St. Peter's Basilica in Vatican, upon completion, although it is slightly lower (it is said to be on a request from the Pope). It has an area of 30,000 sq meters and is 158 m high
