Over 125 years ago a group of gentlemen set the foundation of what is now known as the Royal Tay Yacht Club. Since then, a lot of water has ebbed and flowed past the club’s base in West Ferry Bay and despite all the challenges faced over the years the club has developed into Tayside’s leading yacht its ‘Victorian’ heritage and ‘Royal’ title the club has developed into a modern family friendly club where despite the competitiveness of its members, they still put high emphasis on the ‘fun’ side of RTYC has a comprehensive sailing programme with regular sailing and racing events to cater for both the casual and competitive sailor. Both keel boats and dinghies are catered for at RTYC. This includes evening and weekend sailing with both club and open events. Such is the reputation of the RTYC, that we frequently host major, both Scottish and National, events with travellers coming from all parts of the UK and beyond. The RTYC actively encourage youth sailing with a cadet section sailing/training throughout the sailing season. Normally during the last week of the Summer school holidays there is a Cadet Regatta Week to test all the theory learned but again with a high ‘fun’ club is a registered (RYA) training centre under the auspices of the Tay Sail Training Association.
