Lieutenant Peter Yorck von Wartenburg and his wife Marion, c1939-1944. A jurist and opponent of the Nazi regime, Yorck von Wartenburg was actively involved with the plot to assassinate Hitler on 20 July 1944, and was earmarked to be the Vice-Chancellor's Secretary of State in the administration to take power after the assassination. Hitler survived with minor injuries and Yorck von Wartenburg was arrested the following day. He was convicted by the notorious People's Court and was hanged in Ploetzensee Prison in Berlin on 8 August 1944. The photographer is unknown.
