Waltham Abbey, situated six miles from Woodford,is now a little town, but has formerly been much LITTLE GADDESDEN. 179 The houses are tolerably [T. I. p. 179] good, and thechurch built in an antiquated style. Close to it was anold monastery, Kloster. At this town we saw in a gentle-mans garden the largest Tulip-tree in England, whichrivalled the largest elms in height. The fruit howeverdoes not ripen sufficiently to be available for seed.
