THE GOLD COAST. 237 Physical Features. The whole seaboard of the British possessions projects seawards bcj-ond thenormal coastline. Tiut the most prominent headland is Capo Three Points, whosogranite, dioritc, sandstone, latcritc, and conglomerate hiHs terminate in threesharp peaks. Several of the promontories at this angular section of the coast rise toa height of about 350 feet, and one of the inland summits 12 miles from the seaattains an altitude of 2,000 feet. Most of these hills in the interior are eitherisolated, or else disposed in short ridges, such as the Ajamanti group north-westof Accra. But north of this town occviTs the dome-shaped Dampa, the firstsummit of the Akwapem hills, which develop a true range running north-east andgradually increasing in elevation.
